What is Hotel Humanity
A hotel where we value the individual as a human being. This is a place where we greet you with dignity and respect, and help you to move the dial on your own life. When you walk in, you’re greeted with a smile. Upon completion of our registration process, you will be directed to one of three of our service wings.
What is Hotel Humanity
According to the 2017 Point-in-Time count, there are 8,746 people experiencing homelessness in the City of Seattle, and 3,457 unsheltered people. As a previous Seattle resident for 13 years, and someone who had worked in Seattle for that same amount of time, it was really hard for Founder and CEO, Essence Russ, to make sense of these numbers when she seen new developments on each piece of vacant land in the city. It was evident that there was funding available. It was just prioritized in other ways.
Supportive Services Available
At Hotel Humanity, we hope to be 98% volunteer run. We hope to provide as many internship and volunteer opportunities available.
Full Circle Services:
We plan to offer full circle Case Management Services. This means that once our clients leave with their 5-point plan, we plan to continue to hear from them and work with them towards their goals. We would also like for them to return and
serve in whatever capacity makes the most sense for them: volunteer, intern, or simply to share their experience and story with others.
We plan to offer free licensed counseling services to support clients in getting to the root of their situations.
If some of our clients were not in the situation that they are in, they might have the capacity or funds to treat themselves and engage in regular self-care. At Hotel Humanity, we recognize the importance of regular self-care, and value the impact that it might have on someone's view of themselves and self-esteem.
For these reasons, we offer daily Therapeutic Art and Healing Activities to include yoga, paint nites, meditation, journaling, and free grooming services.
Our case managers will refer clients to the necessary services with community partners.
We plan to provide assistance with transportation to appointments as well.
To reduce or eliminate the issue of homelessness in the Seattle/King County area by addressing the root of situational circumstances with dignity and respect as fellow humans.
Upon entry, you will be handed a journal at registration. With this, we welcome you to write about your experience with each day in our hotel.
Upon your exit, we will ask that you submit your journal. We will use this journal to collect data about the residents who utilize our hotel. All information or stories shared will be only shared with the permission of the author, and will remain anonymous unless otherwise agreed upon.
Once your basic needs are met, you will be connected to one of our professional case managers to begin your registration, and upon completion of that, you will be directed to one of three of our service wings: Healing Wing, Human Services Wing or our Counseling Wing.
During your stay, you will be working on a 5-point plan with your case manager or counselor to discuss your Health, Transportation, Employment, Housing, and Family. The expectation is that you will return one month after your check-out to give your case manager an update on your status.
Wherever you are, whatever your circumstances may be, whatever misfortune you may have suffered, the music of your life has not gone. It is inside you-if you listen to it, you can play it."
